Laboratory Technician

Company Overview:

A start-up energy company that develops low-cost energy storage for the electric utility and transportation industries, is seeking a laboratory technicican that will play a key support role in the exciting growth of our company. Our company is focused on the production and application of first ever, low-cost, aqueous-electrolyte based rechargeable batteries for utility applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations
  • Carry out routine tasks accurately and following strict methodologies to carry out analyses
  • Perform and develop battery test strategies to validate the performance of battery systems
  • Maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment, for example conductivity and pH meters
  • Record and sometimes interpret results to present to senior colleagues
  • Use computers and perform mathematical calculations for the preparation of graphs
  • Conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests to assist scientists in making qualitative and quantitative analyses
  • Compile and interpret results of tests and analyses
  • Provide technical support and assistance to chemists and engineers
  • Prepare chemical solutions for products and processes following standardized formulas, or create experimental formulas

Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science or currently studying for your degree

Good knowledge of laboratory environments

In-depth laboratory experience in the preparation and testing of materials

Good oral and written communication skills – able to clearly summarize experimental findings

Computer literate

Desired Skills & Experience

Good knowledge of electrochemical energy storage materials

Good knowledge of electrolytes, salts, solvents, and additives

Hands-on knowledge of battery and/or other electrochemical energy devices testing and design

Thorough understanding of underlying mechanisms of battery materials interaction and battery degradation

In-depth laboratory experience in the development and testing of materials in energy related fields

Good oral and written communication skills – able to clearly summarize experimental findings

Ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams
